Catholic Priests, Pastors and Clergy Members in Los Angeles, California, Are Being Held Accountable For Abuse
Instead of keeping them safe, thousands of young boys and girls suffered horrible abuses from persons in positions of authority such as Los Angeles church pastors, clergy, and institutional leadership.
And because so many of these institutional and organizational leaders were aware of these abuses and opted not to report them to authorities, Los Angeles victims and their families are eligible to file cases in court for compensation..
Reports have revealed that over 6,800 members of the Los Angeles Catholic Church have been accused of mental, physical, sexual, and emotional abuses to their younger members dating back several decades.
Many of those adults responsible were hidden from identification and passed on to Los Angeles, California, left to repeat their abuses over and over again against young victims and their families.
Victims suffering abuses at the hands of these institutions are encouraged to come forward for a free, private case evaluation by a qualified attorney, with the potential to file for compensation.
- The statute of limitations have been lifted in many cases
- Many victims are given the opportunity to tell their stories
- Church and organization leadership are more ready to reveal abusers
Reports demonstrate a pattern of abuse of young victims by Los Angeles, California, clergy and church officials
While there’s no way to know just how many priests, monks, deacons, and lay people are accused of abusing young Los Angeles victims, new reports are bringing the issue to light and providing a better understanding of the problem.
NBC News has revealed the following shocking statistics:
- The AP revealed that nearly 2,000 who remain alive to determine where they have lived and worked
- Hundreds of those on the list still hold positions of trust with access to children–and, there are 76 on that list who could not be located
- Around 1,700 priests and other clergy members are living with little to no oversight from religious authorities or law enforcement
- Dioceses and religious orders so far have revealed more than 5,100 clergy members are involved to various degrees
The Washington Post notes, “Sexual abuse is notoriously under-reported, especially when the victims are children unaware, or not fully cognizant, that what they have experienced is a crime.”
The Consumer Justice Action team believes that the young child victims of Los Angeles clergy, priests, pastors, and lay people in California should have the right to face these abusers and finally get compensation and justice.
