There’s simply no way to know just how many Sacramento, California, priests, monks, deacons, and lay people are accused of abusing young victims; however, the latest reports from a variety of credible sources are shining a light on just how serious the issue has become.

Sacramento, California, victims and their families are now urged to file cases in a court of law for compensation primarily because many of these Sacramento institutional leaders were aware of these abuses and chose not to report them to authorities.

Over 6,800 members of the Catholic Church have been accused of abuses to young boy and girl members dating back several decades, with perpetrators going largely unnoticed just to save the reputation of the Church and avoid legal processes.

Many of the adults responsible were hidden from identification and, once their crimes came to light, were passed on to areas such as Sacramento, California, only to repeat their abuses over and over again.

Victims abused by pastors and clergy of Sacramento, California, institutions are encouraged to come forward for a free, private case evaluation by qualified attorneys, to possibly file a claim that could include compensation.

Now is the proper time to take action because:

  • The statute of limitations have been lifted in many cases
  • Church and organization leadership are more ready to reveal abusers
  • Many victims are given the opportunity to tell their stories

There’s simply no way to know just how many Sacramento, California, priests, monks, deacons, and lay people are accused of abusing young victims; however, the latest reports from a variety of credible sources are shining a light on just how serious the issue has become.

NBC News has revealed the following shocking statistics:

  • Around 1,700 priests and other clergy members are living with little to no oversight from religious authorities or law enforcement
  • Dioceses and religious orders so far have revealed more than 5,100 clergy members are involved to various degrees
  • The AP revealed that nearly 2,000 who remain alive to determine where they have lived and worked
  • Hundreds of those on the list still hold positions of trust with access to children–and, there are 76 on that list who could not be located

The Washington Post notes, “Sexual abuse is notoriously under-reported, especially when the victims are children unaware, or not fully cognizant, that what they have experienced is a crime.”

The Consumer Justice Action team believes that the young victims of Sacramento, California clergy and institutional abuse and their families should have the right to face these abusers and get justice and compensation.
